I’m a trained horticulturist based in Ann Arbor, Michigan with more than 15 years of experience working in public gardens. For more than a decade, my work has focused on managing a large, public bonsai collection. In 2021, I took a haitus in my work to apprentice with Michael Hagedorn of Crataegus Bonsai in Portland, Oregon. During this time, I refined my bonsai skills and techniques and assisted with client work and teaching seasonal classes.

Bonsai is a lifestyle that requires close attention to the natural world and a syncronisity with the seasons. Bonsai requires an open mind and the ability to learn and grow with the bonsai themselves. So, I began Becoming Bonsai to embrace not only the process of bonsai creation and care but the development of the caretaker as well.
